Tired of buying overpriced little packets of vanilla sugar? Follow me.
Who hasn’t dreamed of having homemade vanilla sugar? Go for it! It’s so simple, economical, and delicious!
For this DIY, you can use either white sugar or unrefined cane sugar—both will absorb the vanilla aroma perfectly.
Choose your favorite jar—it should have a lid and seal tightly to preserve all the flavors.
1 • Take 4 “Bourbon Gold Infusion” vanilla beans or 2 “Bourbon Gold Tradition” beans. The “Gold” range was selected by Vanillia for its warm, chocolatey notes. These beans have a lower moisture content than “Black” vanilla, which is perfect for making vanilla sugar because the sugar grains won’t stick to the beans.
2 • Split the vanilla beans lengthwise using a knife. Scrape out the vanilla seeds and mix them into the sugar.
3 • Shake the jar firmly (after closing it ;-) to thoroughly mix the vanilla seeds with the sugar crystals.
4 • Add the remaining scraped vanilla beans, which also contain vanillin, the main flavor compound in vanilla.
5 • Optional • If you feel like it, you can also blend everything together to make vanilla powdered sugar: exquisite!
Once the magic powder is ready, let it infuse for at least 3 weeks to allow the flavors to blend. Shake the jar from time to time.
Remember, every time you scrape vanilla beans to extract the seeds, don’t forget to add the scraped pods to your vanilla sugar (or your homemade vanilla extract if you make one). This helps maintain the vanilla flavor. When the jar runs low, just add more sugar and your magic powder will become everlasting.
Your homemade vanilla sugar is perfect for sweetening your tea or coffee and will definitely enhance all your desserts, yogurts, cakes, jams, or any other delicious creations!
Enjoy your tasting and happy indulging!
